This I Believe (Summary)
My this I believe statement is based on my belief that there is a purpose for everyone in their life. As a person that has gone through a lot as a young child, I found out what I wanted to do in my life and what inspired me rather quickly. My passion is helping others and making a difference in the world. Through my actions of serving the community, to joining the National Kidney Foundation to raise several thousands of dollars I have capitalized on my opportunities as much as possible so I can make a difference. I believe that if people search hard enough and do something very passionate to them, they too will find their purpose in life, whatever that may be.
This I Believe (Full)
I believe that everybody has a calling in life. Whether it is easy to find or it is hiding around the corner we all have something that motivates you and that that you are called to do, not something that you choose just because of the money.
Nearly 5 years ago I experienced a pain that no child should go through. My mother passed away. My mom had Renal Cell Carcinoma which is a disease of the kidneys. I did not know how to deal with it at the time, I was just in a kid in the 8th grade focusing on fitting in and doing well in school. From the time she was diagnosed to the time she passed away she survived for two years. It was very difficult for me when she passed away. I believe that you should spend every moment that you possibly can with your loved ones because you never know when something will happen to them or yourself.
Blind sighted by what had happened I was in shock and had trouble coping for a while. How could this happen to me? A year or so later another tragedy had arisen. My brother was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Luckily we were able to find a kidney match for him through my uncle and his life was saved. All of these occurrences and tragedies in my life made it clear what I was supposed to. I wanted to make a difference in peoples’ lives and the world. I want to become a doctor so that I could change the lives of people just like the doctors who had helped my mother and brother fight their diseases. This is my calling, it’s what I am meant to do in life. It’s a way for me to give back to others and to make a difference in others’ lives. This has inspired me in numerous ways.
After all this had happened I decided I wanted to become more involved in service and helping others. I started volunteering whenever I had the chance. I volunteered numerous places such as my local Hospital, the Special Olympics, Big Buddies, Habitat for Humanity, wildlife conservations and more. Everything was very fulfilling, I felt as if I was truly serving others. Giving back is my calling in life.
All this volunteering was nice but how could I go even further? While in college I stumbled upon an organization called the National Kidney Foundation. “Perfect!” I told myself. I made arrangements and now I am a member of the NKF Walk Committee and I am working towards organizing a walk where we aim to raise over 200,000 dollars for kidney research, individuals who have trouble paying for dialysis or kidney surgeries, and to increase the awareness of kidney disease. I myself have also collaborated a walk team where we plan to raise thousands of dollars and get the word out about kidneys as well.
Whether it is easy or not to find, I believe that everyone has a purpose and everyone has a calling in life, you just have to take time to find it. It must be something you are truly passionate about. I found my purpose in life rather early in my life, but I know it is not that way for everyone. You have to keep searching and when you find that calling you have to chase it, it doesn’t just happen, you have to be the one to make it happen. My name is Keavash Assani and this is what I believe.
